Course Overview

The aim of the Master’s degree course in Navigation Science and Technologies is to produce highly skilled professionals and scientists with an expertise in applying specific methods, techniques and tools to different scientific and technological contexts relating to navigation and climate. In particular, the subjects and topics covered in the bachelor’s degree course in Nautical and Aeronautical Sciences are here further developed, with special emphasis on navigation and flight management, topographic surveying and geo-topographical network management. The course also provides a thorough grounding in atmospheric, oceanographic and climate physics, at both general and specialist level, in its experimental and theoretical aspects, concentrating in particular on their applications. Thanks to their multidisciplinary training, graduates are prepared to liaise with professionals and scientists working in various related application fields.


Course Characteristics

The Master’s degree course in Navigation Science and Technologies, the only one in Italy, is a two-year course (totaling 120 ECTS), which includes 12 exams, a 225-hour internship with companies or research institutions, and a final dissertation. The course is structured into semesters and offers two areas of specialization: “Air and Maritime Navigation and Survey” and “Climate Sciences”. When enrolling, students must choose their area of specialization and three elective modules among those suggested for the corresponding field.

Graduates in Navigation Science and Technologies can work in several areas in the private and public sector, especially in the following fields: cartographic companies, maritime works, private and public companies, meteorological and oceanographic private and public research institutes, hydrographical survey companies; regional agencies for environment, consultancy firms for coastline management; facilities working in the management of aeronautical systems.
Thanks to the choice of elective modules, graduates also have career opportunities at maritime and airport agencies and air traffic control companies.
