Course description

The course provides an introduction to Modern Physics, it includes Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, the first step in Quantum Theory, matter waves. This course covers the experimental basis of Modern Physics, discussing experimental results

Prerequisites

Good knowledge of results from Classical Physics are prerequisites to attend the Modern Physics course

Syllabus

Topics include Einstein's special theory of relativity, the Lorentz transformation, relativistic effects; a brief introduction to some concepts of general relativity, including the principle of equivalence.
Photoelectric effect, photons; de Broglie waves, Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle.
Introduction to wave functions, wave packets, probability amplitudes, stationary states.
Introduction to Atomic Physics and Nuclear Physics
