Course description

Understand the techniques of environmental assessment projects, including the management and evaluation strategies as identified by the International Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Understand the meaning of indicator and index. Understanding the meaning of biomarker, bioaccumulation, biomagnification. Understanding the natural history of living organisms used as bioindicators. To be able to understand the responses of various biological indicators. Understanding the role of various indicators in trophic networks. Know how to choose the appropriate biological indicators according to the type of survey to be performed. Be informed about the principles and techniques of ecotoxicology.

Microbiology, ecology, biochemistry

Syllabus

IUCN Management and Evaluation Cycle, DPSIR Chains, Environmental Monitoring. Soil: characteristics, structure, components, impacts. Soil life: edaphon, trophic networks. Microbiological indicators of soil quality. Biological indicators of soil quality. Biological air quality indicators. Biological indicators of inland water quality. Theory and practice of ecotoxicology.
