Course description

*) Knowledge and understanding: the student must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of Radar Remote Sensing. *) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: the student must demonstrate to be able to solve problems of low and medium complexity of Radar remote sensing.
*) Autonomy of judgment: the student must be able to develop the ability to critically analyze the different problems with particular reference to case studies different from those proposed during the course.
*) Communication skills: The student must have the ability to clearly and simply express technical concepts and to use scientific language correctly.
*) Learning skills: The student must be able to integrate and update knowledge using different sources.

Prerequisites

It is necessary to have acquired and assimilated the following knowledge provided
from the courses of Mathematical Analysis I and II, Algebra and
Geometry, Theory of Signals. Theory of Random Phenomena.

Radar Systems. Resolution. Doppler effect. Radar section. Radar equation. Low pass and band pass signals. Narrow band signals. Chirp signal. Compression of the Chirp.
Notes on Antennas. Arrays of antennas. Directivity and gain of an antenna. Real Aperture Radar (RAR). Resolution in range and azimuth of a RAR. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). Resolution in range and azimuth of a SAR. SAR interferometry. SAR tomography. fading and Speckle. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). Microwave Tomography. Automotive Radar Imaging.

Learning assessment

The objective of the exam is to verify the level of achievement of the previously indicated training objectives. The exam consists of an oral test, in which the ability to connect and will be evaluated compare different aspects covered during the course.
