Teaching language: Italian

Learning objectives:
The course aims to raise awareness of the central role of the problems related to International Law and the legal culture on the topic.

Expected learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding: The student should be able to understand the role of International Law issues in modern relations with particular attention to the Governance. In addition, he/she should also know the main problems generated from new international themes.

Applying knowledge and understanding: the student should be able to apply the acquired knowledge to the evolution of modern international community.

Making judgments: the student should be able to use autonomously the acquired knowledge discussing specific issues such as the evaluation of big international problems (migration, energy).

Communication: the student is expected to give clear and in-depth answers to the questions of the oral exam.

Lifelong learning skills: the student should be able to show a good learning ability, by widening, for example, his/her knowledge with use of relevant bibliographic references. The student will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in previous courses integrating them with the additional professional skills that characterize the course.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites:
General knowledge and reasoning ability. Some basic knowledge of Law, if previously acquired by the student, can facilitate the learning process.

Part 1 (12 hours): International Community. Subjects of International Law.
Part 2 (18 hours): Sources of International Law.
Part 3 (18 hours): Incorporation of International Law. Peaceful settlement of international disputes. Internationally wrongful act and responsibility. The UN.

Teaching Methods

Course organization:
The course consists of frontal lessons during which the program themes will be discussed; during lessons are also addressed applications issues, encouraging student interaction in the discussion.

Learning assessment

Assessment methods:
The assessment is based on an oral examination in order to assess the achievement by students of the educational objectives. To evaluate the acquisition and depth learning of knowledge by students, this includes both open-ended questions on topics of the program, and more specific questions to assess reasoning skills of students passing from theory to practical cases. The vote of the oral examination is expressed in scale from 0 to 30 (to pass the exam, from 18 to 30).
