Course description

The course aims to form students on the fundamentals of neuroscience applied to sports and motor exercise, providing competence about the implementation of mental training programs and the promotion of well-being at every stage of life.

Knowledge and understanding: The student has to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the biological bases of movement, motor act and action, cognitive, emotional and motivational processes related to sports and the effects of physical activity on cerebral neuroplasticity.

Ability to Apply Knowledge and Understanding: The student has to demonstrate ability in using the knowledge acquired to design and implement mental training programs based on the imagination and observation of the action techniques and has to be able to promote healthy behaviors for well-being.

Autonomy of judgment: The students has to be able approach the issues with criticism and to generalize the concepts acquired also in the areas of research applied to sport and the well-being

Communicative abilities: The student has to use a simple scientific language, discuss the topics also in the form of written and to be able in presentation of the results of international literature.

Learning abilities: The student has to demonstrate that he has understood the course objectives through the discussion of the topics of the program and international scientific literature using also self-assessment paths proposed on the issues discussed.

Prerequisites

The student must have adequate knowledge of neurophysiology and neuroanatomy, general psychology and sports psychology.

Syllabus

FOUNDAMENTS OF ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF MOTOR ACTIVITY MOTORIA (12 h)
Method in neuroscience;
Principles of general organization of central nervous system.

BIOLOGICAL BASES OF MOVEMENT AND ACTION (12 h)
Levels of execution;
Planning, decision and execution of motor behaviors;
Mirror system

COGNITIVE PROCESSES IN SPORT (12 h)
Sport and cognitive functions;
Spatial memory to improve the performance;
Mental training;
Sleep and consolidation of procedural information.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND WELL-BEING (12 h)
Physical activity and cerebral plasticity;
Brain and cognitive reserve

Learning assessment

TEACHING VERIFICATION MODES
Learning verification consists of anonymous self-assessment test at the end of each lesson on the topic previously treated and then discussed in class to retrieve and summarize the main points. In the final oral exam, is evaluated the acquisition of the topics by synthetic but structured and complete exposition and the ownership of the scientific language.
