Course description

The course program aims to provide students with a framework of reference for understanding the complex and varied mosaic that makes up the current organization of land space and highlighting the changes in geopolitical and geoeconomic linkage between the different areas of the globe.

Expected learning outcomes
- Knowledge and understanding: The course will enable students to acquire the ability to interpret the different realities from the local to the global scale in geographic-economic-political terms.
- Applying knowledge and understanding: At the end of the course, the student has to prove to know, to understand and to be able to put into practice the basic structures, methods and instruments of Geography, and to interpret the main economic and political phenomena in the world, the problems and case studies proposed.
Making judgements: The student must be able to deepen his/her own knowledge and develop critical skills needed to analyze and interpret what is happening in the world more and more globalized.
- Communication skills: The student must be able to respond clearly, exhaustively and with appropriate geographical language to the examination questions by demonstrating to have adequate skills in developing and communicating the acquired knowledge.
- Learning skills: The study has to be mainly based on the reasoning, so the student must not only demonstrate good learning but also to be able to depeen his/her knowledge with use of other relevant bibliographic references to the topics studied.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of economic and geographic concepts and of political international space.

Syllabus

Introduction to the problems of economic and political geography. Nature and evolution of the relationship between man and environment. Globalization. Environment, population, resources. Services geography. Urban geography. Development geography. Geo-economic and geopolitical context and global changes.

Learning assessment

The final assessment will be based on a oral text aimed to verify the student’s ability to communicate the level of acquisition and elaboration of the course contents.
