Course description

The course covers theories, tools and practices related to organizational design. The course intends to develop knowledge and understanding skills applied to organizational behavior, coordination mechanisms and organizational forms
Knowledge and understanding: the student should be able to understand the basic concepts of organization, with peculiar reference to organizational behaviour, coordination mechanisms, and forms of organization.
Applying knowledge and understanding: the student should be able to apply the acquired knowledge to organizational diagnosis and design.
Making judgments: the student should be able to use autonomously the acquired knowledge solving specific issues, such as the analysis of organizational issues and the identification of more suitable coordination mechanisms and organizational forms.
Communication: the student is expected to give clear and in-depth answers to the questions of the written exam and oral exam.
Lifelong learning skills: the student should be able to show a good learning ability, by widening, for example, his/her knowledge with use of relevant bibliographic references. The student will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in previous courses integrating them with the additional professional skills that characterize the course.

Teaching Methods

Lectures (80 hours). Moreover, students will be trained by means of a variety of interactive teaching methods such as discussion of cases, simulations, teamwork and presentations, that enable students to gain a solid understanding of the complexities of modern organizations.

Learning assessment

The exam will consist a written and an optional oral examination. Final written exam will consist of multiple choice, a case study with open questions that directly refer to the textbook. For students attending the course the written exam could also consist of open questions related to a project work and open questions that directly refer to material covered in the course. The students who will pass the written exam with at least 26/30 could take the oral exam.
