Course description

At the end of this 6CFU section, within the 9CFU-course “Nutrition&Sport”, the student will know the principles of dietetics and nutrition applied to different type of sport, with specific regard to training, competition, post-competition. Further the student will be able to know the principles of the most common diet on the sport performance also in relation to the genetic and epigenetic components.
-In particular, the course will allow the student to:
- know and understand the general principles of anthropometry applied to the sport performance, and the principles to determine an adequate nutritional apport in different moments of sport season, i.e. training, competition, post-competion. Further the student will understand the differences among the most common diet also in association with the nutrigenetic in the sport performance.
by the end of the course the student has to know and understand basic knowledge within a more complex practical context (Knowledge and understanding);
- apply the knowledge in a professional scenario by identifying the nutritional needs of athletes according to the type of training and performance (Applied knowledge and understanding skills);
- evaluate the effects of different types of diet on the specific sport discipline, on performance and throughout the whole season (making judgments);
- acquire an appropriate scientific language and communicate their knowledge and skills properly to experts and non in the sports field, including the school context (communication skills)
- keep on studying topics of greatest interest to his/her professional field by selecting the most accurate sources of information and the most appropriate methodologies (learning Skills).



Biochemical principles of intermediate metabolism; principles of sport physiology, and dietetics


At the end of the course the student will be able to assess the nutritional needs of athletes according to the different type of training and performance with regard to the different phases of the competitive season: training, competition, post-competition, including the percompetitive nutrition as well as the effects of the most common diets on the sport performance..
- Extimation of calories for the construction of diet and anthropometry in athletes (1CFU)
-Nutritional needs in sports (1CFU);
- Low-carb diet and sports performance (1CFU);
- Vegetarian and vegan diet in sports and performance (1CFU);
-nutrigenics and sports (1CFU);
- Individual sports: features and energy requirements (0,5CFU)
- Team sports: characteristics and energy demands (0,5CFU)

Learning assessment

The final exam aims to verify the achievement of the objectives indicated in all the two modules (6+3CFU), Nutrition & Sport. At the end of the course, the student will perform a final multiple-choice test (30 items) based on the arguments of all the program, as previous indicated and the possibility to integrate with an oral interview; the exam is considered passed when the students has correctly answered at least 18 questions (18/30) and obtain a posive evaluation of the interview.The test lasts 30 minutes. Failure to pass the exam requires the exam to be repeated in the next sessions.
