Course description

Aim of the course is to provide students with the tools they need to develop expertise in data analysis using the most common methodologies of the economic statistics. Students will be able to correctly apply statistical methodologies for complex data analysis and communicate the results obtained.
The first part of the course will focus on the themes of statistical inference, focusing on hypothesis tests and confidence intervals.
The second part focuses on the own methodologies of multivariate statistics, with particular attention to data reduction techniques.
The last part will focus on data analysis through the use of regression models for continuous and discrete variables.

Prerequisites

Basic tools of Statistics.

Syllabus

Descriptive Statistics: Frequencies, means, variability.
Inference: confidence intervals and hypothesis tests.
Multivariate statistics: distance and cluster analysis. Principal component analysis. Correspondence analysis.
Linear regression model. Logistic regression.
Panel data models: pooled, fixed effects and random effects.

Learning assessment

During the course the degree of learning has constantly assessed by asking students to perform exercises and develop case studies related to business context and economic dynamics.
