The aim of the course is to provide students with the main methodologies for an efficient use of hardware and software instruments. The main topics deal with the computer architecture, data representation, software packages for office automation and internet tools. Algorithms and software. Multimedia applications. Database. Introduction to computer programming in VBA. Introduction to C Programming language.

Main steps in solving problems with computers, algorithms and software. Computer organization, von Neumann architecture. Hardware components of personal computers. Information representation, data and instructions. Control flow. Variables. Arrays. Operating systems. Windows operating system with applications. Software packages for office automation: word processing software, spreadsheet, presentation graphics package. Visual basic for applications. Writing algorithms in C.
