Course description

The course aims to illustrate the multiple interconnections between economic crysis and contemporary constitutionalism crysis, focusing in particular on the vivid period of judicial and political workshop represented by the Weimar Republic.

Prerequisites

Having successfully passed the exam of Public Law (9CFU).

Syllabus

Through the lens of the theoretical thought grown up during the Weimar Republic, the course sets a confrontation between the constitutional crysis through the two World Wars and the contemporary constitutional crysis, further analyzing the relation between financial breakdowns and social rights/democracy index. A particular focus will be dedicated to the comparison of the Weimar Constitution with the Italian Republic Constitution, to the concepts of austerity, welfare and deficit spending, and also to Robert Axelrod’s economic theories about the «incoming of cooperation».
We will as well describe the cultural-artistic background in the Weimar Era, as well as the deep roots of the historical weakness of the socio-institutional Italian environment.

Teaching Methods

The course is articulated in a series of lessons about the contents described above, plus some multimedia workshops where the students, working as a team under the lead of PhD students, elaborate an original Power Point that summarizes their improvements in the knowledge about the field of study of the exam.
