Course description

The course provides an introduction and description of the main aeronautical and aerospace vehicle systems, particularly with regard to Hydraulic, Electric, Propulsion, Pneumatic, Flight Controls, Atmospheric Protection and Landing devices. Regarding spacecraft, the electrical system, the attitude control system and the thermal control system are described. A description of the reliability analysis of the systems is also described.

Knowledge and understanding:
The student must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the functions and operation of the main aeronautical and aerospace vehicle systems. The realization and application problems of the various plants and the interconnections between the primary and secondary plants. The student must also understand the problems associated with the reliability of the equipment and the techniques required to guarantee it.

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
The student must demonstrate that he / she is able to use his / her own knowledge to understand the problems associated with the use of various types of equipment and the choice of alternative solutions considering their advantages and disadvantages in the case of real applications, also taking into account the possible different reliability requirements.

Independent judgment:
The student must be able to know how to independently evaluate the technical solutions used in the construction of aircraft or satellites.

Communication Skills:
The student must be able to support a conversation about aeronautical and aerospace aerodynamic systems, including examples of real applications in the various types of vehicle.

Learning Skills:
The student must be able to update the knowledge and study in more detail specific themes on specific applications concerning the onboard systems.

Prerequisites

The student must know the basics of physics in particular motion and character of fluids, thermodynamics, ideal gas and real gas, electric field and magnetic field.

Learning assessment

The purpose of the verification procedure is to quantify the level of achievement of the training objectives previously indicated. The verification procedure consists of an oral examination during which the ability to apply knowledge on aerospace facilities in real cases of use also occurs.
