Course description

The course illustrates the way in which management techniques can be applied effectively to the social interest initiatives carried out by public bodies or non-profit organizations, with a focus on health evaluation techniques.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the principles of economics and business management.

Syllabus

The course illustrates the way in which management techniques can be applied effectively to the social interest initiatives carried out by public bodies or non-profit organizations, with a focus on health evaluation techniques.
Knowledge and ability to understand. The student must demonstrate that he understands the importance of management within the health sector.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding. The student must demonstrate that he has acquired conceptual, methodological and management skills in relation to public health issues.
Autonomy of judgment. The student must be able to critically evaluate the different situations presented by the teacher during the examination and to be able to apply what has been learned about the health management, with a particular focus on the techniques of economic evaluation.
Communication skills: The student must have the ability to present and argue any works using a technical language, but simple and easy to understand for the interlocutors.
Learning skills: The student must be able to continuously update himself, acquiring the ability to deepen his knowledge in the marketing sector, with particular focus on social marketing, through the consultation of texts and publications (also in English).

• Protection of the right to health
• Accountability and the role of institutional actors in health governance models
• Analysis of health demand and supply
• Health planning
• Methods for the economic evaluation of health programs
• Disciplinary approaches to the Health technology assessment
• Drug market and economic evaluation of pharmaceutical innovations
• Cost-Benefit Analysis
• Cost-Effectiveness Analysis and Cost-Utility Analysis
• The strategic approach and the elaboration of strategies in healthcare companies

4. DIDACTIC METHODS

Lectures, group discussions, case analysis.

5. METHOD OF VERIFICATION OF LEARNING

The verification of learning uses an oral test. The objectives of the verification concern both the correct understanding of the recommended readings and the capacity for reflective appropriation of the methods and concepts learned.
