HYGIENE AND HEALTH PROMOTION
The course is aimed to educate students about health promotion, and especially about the promotion of movement, by studying in depth the health determinants, in order to allow them to play an active role in this setting.
Knowledge and understanding ability: The student should demonstrate to know and understand health problems linked to the different ages and conditions.
Ability to apply knowledge and comprehension: The student should be able to use his knowledge to promote health through movement in different settings.
Judgment autonomy: The student should be able to evaluate autonomously the different situations presented by the teacher during the examination and to apply what he learned in the fields of health promotion and prevention.
Communication ability: The student should be able to explain the issues learned in an easy but scientifically correct way, even in the form of a composition.
Learning ability: The student should be able to keep up to date continuously, becoming able to improve and enhance his knowledge about epidemiology, health promotion and prevention through an independent educational path, by referring to texts and publications (also in English language).
The student should have an adequate knowledge of cellular biology, human anatomy and physiology, and a basic knowledge of general, human and environmental hygiene.
The health: definition and main determinants. Natural history of diseases. Infectious and chronic diseases. Risk factors and lifestyles. The three levels of prevention. Health inequalities. Salutogenesis.
Prevention and health education: programmation, communication strategies.
Health promotion: history, concepts and applications. The role of the health promoter.
Health goals of movement. Movement and health: epidemiological aspects. The movement promotion as an instrument for the prevention of chronic diseases.
Physical activity in health protection and promotion. Movement and health in the different age classes. Strategies of movement promotion.
Promotion of healthy diet. Nutrition problems: definition, epidemiology and prevention of malnutrition, ipernutrition and eating disorders. Nutritional education.
Social diseases, addictions and psychological problems: the role of health promotion.
Elements of health services organization for prevention and health promotion. Health in all policies.
Hygiene and safety in sport and physical activity: risk factors, epidemiology and prevention of diseases and injuries related to the practice of sport and physical activity. Hygiene and safety in sport facilities. Health protection and medical certification. Doping. Sport and smoke.

The learning verification is based on an oral examination aimed to evaluate the ability of the student in relating and comparing the different course issues. The aim of the examination is to verify the achievement of the course educational goals.
Lectures are in Italian. The professor is fluent in English and is available to interact with students in English, also during the examination.
