Course description

The course provides tools for the analysis of international economic policy with particular regard to the role played by money, financial and foreign exchange markets. The goal is to answer the following questions through rigorous analytical tools: what is the role of economic policy in a globalized context? How to establish the effectiveness of fiscal policy and monetary policy? What role do financial markets play in defining the effectiveness of economic policy in a context of interdependence?

Prerequisites

Knowledge of Macroeconomics and Economic Policy in the basic contents

Syllabus

I block of lessons (24 hours)
Exchange rates and macroeconomics in the open economy National accounting and balance of payments. Exchange Rates and Currency Markets: A Portfolio Approach. Currency, interest rates and exchange rates. Price level and exchange rate in the long run.

II block of lessons (24 hours)
Production and exchange rate in the short run. Fixed exchange rates and foreign exchange market intervention. Financial globalization: opportunities and crisis.

Lectures, exercises with active participation of students, analysis of recent literature results on current events
