Course description

Present main economic concepts to analyze consumer and firms behavior, market equilibrium, business strategies (for example, price policies, relationships with other companies, horizontal and vertical integrations).

Prerequisites

Formally no one; the ability to reason, the knowledge of elemental algebra, the ability to work with graphics, elementary mathematical analysis, make it easier to understand the arguments.

Consumer theory: demand and supply and market equilibrium; The budget constraint, the consumer's preferences, the utility function, the optimum choice of the consumer; Individual demand and market demand;
Business Theory: Company Objectives; cost analysis; Analysis of revenues; Marginal product substitution, marginal product; Individual offer and market offer, economies of scale; Market regimes: perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly.
Introduction to game theory and business behavior: abuses of dominant positions; restrictive competition arrangements; cooperation and vertical agreements; Limit price and deterrence at entry; Predatory prices.

Teaching Methods

The course includes frontal lessons, during which the topics of the program and exercises will be discussed, and recitations to discuss concrete cases.

Learning assessment

Verification is based on structured written test in order to assess the achievement by the student of the educational goals, with optional oral exam; special examinations and midterms are offered for attendants.
