The basic principles of pharmacology and pharmacodynamics, as well as the variability of interindividual response in relation to genetic factors, age and sex and the criteria for
assessment of the risk-benefit ratio.
The student should know the mechanism of action, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, unwanted side effects, toxicological aspects, therapeutic bases, contraindications, toxicities and drug interactions pathologies. Finally, the student must know the toxicology of consumables and those that can be used to improve physical performance. Legislative aspects of Doping.
The student must acquire and assimilate the following knowledge provided by chemistry courses, Biochemistry and General Physiology
Drugs and Sports. Concept of drug and pharmacological action. Origin and classification of drugs. Development of a drug
Pharmacokinetics: Routes of drug administration. Passage of drugs across cell membranes. Absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs. Pharmacokinetic parameters.
Pharmacodynamics: Sites and mechanisms of action of drugs. Drug receptors and their classifications. Dose-response relationship. Agonists and antagonists. Factors that modify the action of drugs. Habit. Individual variations and drug interactions. Abnormal responses to drug administration: idiosyncrasy, drug-allergy.
MOLECULAR PHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROTRANSMISSIONS
Drug-receptor bond and signal transduction processes. Principles of pharmacology of the autonomic and peripheral nervous system (cholinergic and adrenergic system) and central nervous system (glutamatergic neurotransmission, GABA, dopaminergic, serotonergic, histaminergic, opioid).
Non-Steroidal and Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Peripheral and central nervous system drugs. Drugs of the Cardiovascular System, Blood and Kidney. Respiratory System Drugs. Digestive System Drugs. Immune system drugs. Metabolic drugs. Hormones and drugs of the Endocrine System. Medicines for the treatment of the genitourinary tract.
Antimicrobial chemotherapeutic agents: Principles of antimicrobial therapy
Doping drugs: mechanism of action and side effects. WADA list. Laboratory investigation tools for the analysis of pharmacological substances.
