GEOGRAPHY OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND TERRITORY
Expected Learning results:
-KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
The student must be able to analyze the resources of the territory in a sustainable development perspective; To know and interpret the environmental issues, the objectives and the tools used by the actors involved in environmental policies.
-APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
The student must demonstrate that he has understood and developed the ability to analyze geographically the main environmental dynamics, the environmental degradation phenomena and the relationship between environment, sustainable development and company evolution.
Students must be able to deepen their learning independently and develop critical skills to interpret the main dynamics of the issues being analyzed.
The student must demonstrate appropriate communication skills by describing the concepts in a clear and exhaustive way through the correct use of geographic language.
-LIFELONG LEARNING SKILLS:
The student must demonstrate a good learning ability using also different bibliographic references to be able to deepen individual topics analyzed during the course.
Basic knowledge of basic concepts of economic geography.
In the teaching course, the following subjects concern:
Environment (biotic, abiotic, ecosystem, habitat, nature, landscape, territory)
Ecosystems (quality, classification); from the study of ecology systems to socio-economic systems: the metabolism of a society (from agricultural to industrial society); the main phenomena of environmental decay (pollution, global warming, climate change, desertification, deforestation, biodiversity loss, demography problems); the evolution of the relationship environment-development (supporters and opponents): the actors of environmental policies (International Organisations, EU, Governments, Regions, local autonomies, firms); environmental policies' tools (regulative, economic, voluntary); the Environmental Assessment; the socio-environmental conflict
Frontal lessons. Seminar activities on topics related to recent environmental issues.

The assessment is based on an oral test; Periodical checks could be carried out for the trainees to verify the acquired knowledge.
