Course description

The aim of the teaching course is to provide for a general knowledge of the functioning of EU legal order and basic principles governing digital data in the context of the EU Law and EU market, with reference, for one hand, to human rights, and for other hand, to the freedoms of movement within EU territory. The student will have to reach a satisfactory level of knowledge of the several topics included in the program and to demonstrate the personal capacity of elaborating the concepts and the information acquired.

Basic principles regarding the Functioning of the Eu Legal order (Institutions, legal sources)
European strategy on data
The protection of personal data (case law)
Some remarks about:
- the EU regulation of the artificial intelligence;
- digital platforms and the proposal of the Digital
Service act
The Digital single market
-The sharing economy

Eu legal order
Eu law on digital data (Human rights - internal market)

Teaching Methods

Lessons in class; Lesson in class, use of slides, analysis of case studies and other EU materials;
mid-term exam (written, not compulsory), regarding the topics of the first half of the program (if compatible with the organization of the course and the time-table). The mid-term exam will consists in 3-4 questions and open answers (duration: 1 h approximately). Students participating in the mid-term exam will be evaluated in the oral exam only on topics included in the second half of the program

Learning assessment

Oral exam, in order to verify the level of the knowledge acquired, the methodology followed (and suggested during the course). The duration of the exam will be about 15-20 minutes for each student; 3 questions (only 1 or 2 if the student has participated in the mid-term exam (not compulsory) on Part I. The final grade will be the average between the mid term and the oral exam.
