The course aims to provide students the theoretical concepts and a guideline for analyzing managerial implications addressed to understand the crucial characteristics of organizations, how to regulate interdependencies between activities and organizational actors, at the micro level (individual) Meso (operating units) and macro (corporate organizational forms and business networks).
It aims to train professional figures with competences in the organization of business activities, as they have knowledge and skills to become leader, or middle or top manager or executive line managers in sports, health, education and related and/or correlated sectors.
In detail, we aim to achieve the following training goals:
1) Knowledge and ability to understand.
The student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired a basic knowledge about: the main organizational theories that regulate the organization of company activities; to the key variables of the company organization; the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the design of the work microstructure; the horizontal and vertical specialization criteria at the meso level of the operating units and the coordination and control mechanisms; to the functional and divisional organizational forms, to the networks among enterprises, to the main models of analysis of organizational change at the macro-structural level.
The student must demonstrate the ability to grasp the interconnections between the three analytical perspectives (micro, meso and macro) of a single object of study: the organization of the company activities and the coordination of the organizational actors, in line with the issues illustrated and the stimuli provided during the course, seminars and exercises.
2) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding.
The student must be able to apply the concepts learned to specific cases and specific contexts, preferably current and related to the sports sector and related and/or related sectors, demonstrating the complete and acquired knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of the company organization. The exercises aim to develop and verify these application skills.
3) Autonomy of judgment.
The student must be able to express his/her own point of view assuming positions argued according to a scientific logic and his own personal intuition, consonant and sustainable in relation to the topics covered by the course.
4) Communication skills.
The student must know how to express himself with the properties of language and awareness of their emotional experiences that emerge from non-verbal language.
5) Learning skills.
The student must be able to distinguish the three levels of analysis (micro, meso and macro) and to construct for each of these logical categories clear and exhaustive mental maps in relation to the individual concepts pertaining to the study of the company organization, using the nomenclature characteristics of the discipline.
Fundamentals of organizational design. Organizational design and organizational theories. The key variables of organizational design. The design of the microstructure. The design of the mesostruttura. The coordination and control mechanisms. Organizational forms. The design of the external network. The internazionalization and organizational decisions. Organizational change.
The course offers a theoretical-practical itinerary on the models and tools of Organization Theory. The first part of the course concerns the theoretical foundations of the Organization Theory, as a prevailing interpretative proposal on the individual-organization relationship, analyzing the main classical organizational theories and motivational models, as well as the organizational design variables. The second part regards the design of the microstructure with a focus on the organization of work and the design of the mesostructure also with reference to the definition of organizational forms. The third part is dedicated to deepening the level of macro analysis dealing with the theme of networks between companies, internationalization and organizational change. The course plans to carry out continuous practical studies through seminar activities and group work with the development of project work, on the topics studied.
Lectures, seminar meetings to present concrete business cases with selected testimonials (champions and managers of the sport sector or in connected and/or related fields), exercises in the classroom, project work in the area of the organizational design of the sport setting, healthcare, educational and connected and/or related fields, especially in the sport industry.

Written examination divided into four open five-point questions each, and a ten-point open question, related to the topics listed in the program. The written exam is expressed in thirtieths of vote (total written test score is 30).
Oral examination (for candidates who pass the test with a score of at least 18/30), that consists into questions that start from any gaps in the written examination, regards the topics in the program.
The assessment of the learning will be carried out by means of a written test and an oral test and it is proposed to evaluate the degree of knowledge of the basics and the fundamental topics of study of the teaching program, as well as the verification to verify the student's ability to apply the concepts acquired in reality above all in the sport field. For example, we intend to evaluate the student’s ability to apply the fundamentals of organization theory, the organizational project at micro, meso and macro level, in sports organizations, both internally to structures such as sports federations or CONI is in sports practice in the strict sense of how to manage a football or volleyball team.
Written and oral examinations aim at verifying the level of learning of the principles, notions and topics listed in the program.
Such verification will be conducted on the basis of the following criteria: level of knowledge and deepening of the principles of the corporate organization; Language properties and clarity in oral test.

3. Methods of administration (written, oral, practical): written and oral examination
4. Timetable: according to the exam schedule
5. Duration: written test 1 hour; Oral test for about 10 to about 30 minutes
6. Type (e.g. written test, practical test, interview, etc ...): written test to open answers + oral examination;
7. Final Examination: The student will achieve the minimum score if he/she can demonstrate the acquisition of basic knowledge of the organization. The student will get the highest score when he/she demonstrates that he has understood, thoroughly and introjected all the topics listed in the program, also being able to grasp the interconnections between them and provide concrete application, examples in relation to their managerial implications.
