The course is aimed at providing the knowledge of the chemical and physical phenomena that characterize the operation of the internal combustion engines as well as the issues related to engine control and exhaust emissions reduction. The course will provide the tools needed for performing a critical analysis on the choice of the ICEs according to the application fields. Moreover, great attention will be devoted to the experiments to be performed at the test bench to evaluate performance and emissions vs. engine operating conditions. Alternative powertrain systems, such as the hybrid electric powertrains, will be analyzed.
