Course description

The course aims to provide the knowledge and skills on the issues of business organization at multiple levels of analysis - micro, meso and macro - and human resource management.
The educational objectives of the course are: (i) to provide practical knowledge of the principles and methods of business organization through the understanding of the operational logics of the various functions, the motivation of the personnel and the importance of the corporate climate, (ii) to provide the tools for evaluating and controlling the company's organizational strategy and (iii) to provide models for improving the standards of organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

Prerequisites

It is necessary to have acquired and assimilated the basic notions of Business Economics, in particular the issues related to the organization and management of human resources.

Syllabus

Part 1: Understanding the organization

-The organization that doesn’t close (How the competitive environment has changed; How organizations change; The organizational ecosystem; Organizational design; Emerging organizational morphologies);

-The individual in the organization (The personality; The Big Five model; The personality types: the RUO model and the type A personality; The personality dimensions: the locus of control and the goal orientation; The emotions; The values; The attitudes; The skills);

-The relationship between the individual and the organization (The decision-making processes; The decision-making processes in groups; Motivation; The effects of behavior on the individual-organization relationship).

Part two: The challenges of business organization

-The organization between stability and change (The origins of organizational change; The dimensions of change; The results and functions of change);

Organizational conflicts: critical elements and opportunities for the organization (Conflicts in organizational theories; Levels of analysis and types of organizational conflicts; The individual, situational and organizational determinants of conflicts; The effects of conflicts on workers: a stress-based perspective; Conflict management and negotiation styles);

-Organization and diversity management in the organization (The forms of diversity; Organizational design for diversity enhancement; Diversity management policies);

-The organization of creativity (Creativity in organizations; The antecedents of creativity; Creativity and workspaces).

Part three: The plural world of organizations

-Community organization (Communities in organizations and community organizations; Communities: a bulky concept; Communities in organizations: from stakeholders to assetholders; Communities doing business; Ecosystems for enterprising communities);

Teaching Methods

The teaching activity of the Business organization course is organized in lectures, laboratory activities, individual and group work, case studies, company testimonials and project works.

Learning assessment

The objective of the examination is to verify the level of achievement of the previously indicated educational objectives.
The exam is divided into: Written exam, Oral exam.
The written exam has the purpose of evaluating the study of the subject and the understanding of the basic topics; to pass the test students must acquire at least 18 points out of 30. The time required for the test is 1 hour. It is not allowed to consult texts or use PCs, smartphones, calculators.
Following the written test, an oral exam is scheduled in which the ability to connect and compare different aspects treated during the course will be evaluated.
