Cardiovascular Disease and Sport Cardiology
The course aims to train students on cardiovascular diseases and sports cardiology, on the basis of the most recent guidelines and indications in the field of cardiovascular rehabilitation and prevention. In fact, the importance of cooperation between specialists in Cardiology, Sports Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and health professionals committed to promoting physical activity as a therapeutic tool is now clear.
The growing social and welfare burden of cardiovascular diseases, and the increasingly convincing evidence of the benefits of a targeted and personalized motor activity in the heart patient, have stimulated a growing interest in cardiovascular rehabilitation, understood as a process of psychological, physical and social recovery of subjects with manifestations of heart disease. Cardiovascular rehabilitation, by combining the prescription of physical and sporting activity with changes in the patient's risk profile, has the ultimate aim of promoting clinical stability, reducing the risk of subsequent cardiovascular events and disabilities resulting from heart disease.
Graduates in Motor Sciences, while retaining a specific necessary technical-practical characterization, need fundamental theoretical tools to give them advanced skills in order to operate in the field of motor activities for recreational, socialization, prevention, maintenance and the recovery of the best physical efficiency in different ages, and in different "disabilities" and therefore being able to develop, in multidisciplinary teams, the definition of the rehabilitation program aimed at identifying and overcoming the health needs of the cardiopathic patient.
The student must have adequate knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
The course is divided into three main sections:
- a General Part, which includes the principles of anatomy, physiology and clinical and instrumental cardiovascular diagnostics,
- a part devoted essentially to Cardiovascular Diseases, which in addition to treating incidence, pathophysiology and diagnostics, defines the possible therapeutic choices in the various pathologies;
- a part specifically dedicated to the Cardiology of Sport, which in addition to including cardiovascular adaptations to physical exercise in various conditions, defines the cardiological aspects of sport in developmental age, in the master or disabled athlete and defines the methods and characteristics of cardiovascular rehabilitation, the classification of sports activities and the principles of "sports therapy" in heart patients.
