Course description

The course aims to provide basic knowledge on the pathophysiology of the central and peripheral nervous system in order to understand the neurological bases of movement in physiological and pathological conditions. In order to better explain the role of the individual systems (pyramidal, extrapyramidal, etc.) in the performance of the movement, the main neurological diseases will be examined with the relative signs and symptoms of a mainly motor nature.
The training objective is to provide the Motor Sciences Graduates with knowledge aimed at understanding in detail the role of the nervous system in motor function as well as the skills necessary to adopt an adequate operative approach to subjects suffering from neurological diseases.

Prerequisites

As a basic teaching, the only prerequisites learned in the previous semesters of the biomedical field (anatomy, biology, biochemistry, physiology, etc.) are necessary.

Knowledge and ability to understand: the student must demonstrate knowledge of the essential elements of pathophysiology of the nervous and peripheral system with particular regard to the aspects related to movement.
The ability to apply knowledge and understanding: the student must demonstrate that he is able to use the theoretical knowledge acquired in order to cope with the conditions of the most common feedback in the motor and sports field, even within a multidisciplinary team.
Autonomy of judgment: the student must be able to deepen the knowledge acquired by integrating them with those learned in the other disciplines of the course of study.
Communication skills: the student will have to demonstrate to be appropriately expressed within the neurological vocabulary and more generally will have to demonstrate that he / she adequately uses the scientific language.
Learning skills: the student must demonstrate that he has understood the topics of the course through the discussion in the classroom on the individual topics of the program.

Learning assessment

The assessment of learning uses: 1) specific meetings carried out in the form of a comparison open to the contribution of each participant in the course of which school cases of the subjects dealt with are examined; 2) individual verification to determine the degree of learning, in the form of multiple choice quizzes and open-ended questions; 3) final exam, carried out orally, to evaluate learning through structured exposure to questions concerning the topics covered.
