Course description

Knowledge and understanding
the student must demonstrate an understanding of the issues relating to the dynamics of the systemic approach and functional approach to corporate governance, showing the ability to analyze the main management tools used in current competitive contexts. The student will also have to know the models and concepts underlying strategic planning for the search for competitive advantage. Thanks to these skills, the student will be able to understand the operating logic of companies in current competitive contexts.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
the student must know how to apply the knowledge acquired during the exploratory study of specific cases that the teacher will illustrate during the course or at the reception for non-attending students. The student must have the ability to design management knowledge for the analysis of concrete cases.

Autonomy of judgment: the student must be able to think independently on the methodological choices regarding the organizational structures and the consequent strategic planning in the different contexts. The student must be able to demonstrate that you can select suitable approaches, strategies and tools for the solution and presentation of business cases.
Communication skills: the student must be able to clearly and comprehensively explain the main topics covered by the course and the final exam (written and oral). In addition, you must develop synthesis skills in the written and oral presentation of the arguments.
Learning skills: the student will be able to study and deepen the contents proposed by the teacher through the autonomous learning of further literature references in the socio-political, entrepreneurial and market areas in order to expand knowledge. Finally, he must also demonstrate the ability to reason with other knowledge acquired in different disciplinary fields.


The course is aimed at students of bachelor’s degree in Economia e Commercio and requires that students have a basic knowledge of Microeconomics and Business Administration.


The course deals with the main issues in the field of business management and historical evolution of corporate governance systems and industrial paradigms, the purpose of the company, the relationship with the environment, digital transformation for new business models; the analysis of Porter’s Value Chain primary activities: operations, logistics, marketing; the analysis of Porter’s Value Chain support activities: organization, human resource management, technology management, finance.

The topics are grouped into 4 blocks:
Block 1 (8 hours): Introduction to the course for the development of knowledge to the relationship between business and environment, business and sector and the evolution of industrial paradigms and new business models.
Block 2 (24 hours): Analysis of the existing integration between business functions, choice of a correct business "organization" and finally study of technical and representative models of the production and logistics management function.
Block 3 (24 hours): Marketing area, management of new technologies for digital transformation, financial area and study of the main strategic choices in the operational and management areas of the body that governs the company.
Block 4 (16 hours): Exercises, case studies, business games and exam simulations.

Teaching Methods

The teaching activity of the course is organized in lectures, testimonials, strategic simulations, meetings with representatives of the business world, specialists, professionals. To improve learning, students are invited to view the material on the e-learning platform.
The theoretical arguments will be supported by the presentation of case studies that can be illustrated by the teacher to encourage the interactive debate with students on the dynamics present in the various companies.

Learning assessment

All students will have to take an exam.
The exam will be divided into two tests: written and oral.
The written test consisting of 8 open questions on the topics of the program, each question will be assigned a score of 4 points for the first 7 questions and 2 points for the last, the test will last 90 minutes.
The oral exam can only be accessed by those who have obtained at least the grade of 18 on the written test. The oral exam is compulsory for those who have obtained a grade from 27 to 30, optional in other cases.
The vote, out of thirty, will be the result of the two tests.
The exam will take place at the end of the course in the ordinary sessions and will cover the whole program.
The criteria for assessing the degree of learning refer to the understanding of the topics included in the study program, to the ability to communicate in both written and oral form, including the ability to use an appropriate language specific to the discipline of management, to the ability to synthesize and critical analysis.
