STRATEGIC PLANNING SIMULATION
The aim of the course is to introduce the student to strategic business management through the analysis of the ways in which businesses achieve success. Attention will be focused on the main challenges of planning and implementing the strategy, intended as a coherent, unitary, and integrated decision-making model chosen to determine the purpose of the company in terms of long-term objectives, action programs and priorities for resource allocation and as a channel for differentiating management tasks to achieve competitive advantage and create economic and social value for the stakeholder system.
At the end of the course, the student will be able to theoretically frame the competitive dynamics and sources of the competitive advantage of companies, the main challenges for the design, implementation, and strategic management in the perspective of creating value for stakeholders.
Basic management knowledge can facilitate learning; they correspond to those provided by the courses in economics and business management or other related courses offered by the University. For students coming from different degree courses, an integration with appropriate reference bibliography is however envisaged.

The course illustrates the main theoretical, conceptual, and operational aspects of the strategy, which coherent, unitary, and integrated decision-making model chosen to determine the purpose of the company in terms of long-term objectives, action programs, and resource allocation priorities and which channel for differentiating management tasks to achieve competitive advantage and create economic and social value for the stakeholder system.
The course is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the following areas: strategic management and competitive advantage, the strategy formulation and implementation process, competitive analysis, business resources and skills for the sustainability of competitive advantage, competitive strategies of basis, organizational culture, and leadership as sources of strategy success. The main corporate strategies of the organization will also be introduced.
In the second part of the course, students are made protagonists of the training process through the use of active teaching methods.
The course will be delivered through lectures that will be aimed at illustrating the above issues. In order to improve learners' understanding, business cases will be presented and discussed and testimonials will be organized during the course. In the second part of the course, one or more project work will be organized aimed at deepening the topics covered and applying the main strategic management models of organizations.

Assessment methods: the final assessment test will be placed through an oral examination. The oral examination is the most suitable way to verify the achievement of the training objectives indicated above. Based on three questions focused on the principles and models addressed during the lesson, the exam intends to ascertain the level of knowledge and understanding of the student, the ability to apply theoretical models and understand management practices in real or hypothetical organizational contexts, as well as communication skills. The evaluation is positive (at least 18/30) if the student is able to answer in a timely and exhaustive manner to at least two out of three questions.
For attending students, the project work will contribute to the final evaluation. Students will be organized in small groups and aimed at verifying the ability to learn and apply the planning and implementation models of the business strategy, as well as the ability to work in a team and exhibition skills. The evaluation of the project work is out of thirty and will contribute 50% to the overall evaluation of the student. This work will involve groups of three or four students and will be carried out throughout the course. The goal of the project work is to offer the opportunity to simulate the design and implementation of strategic plans. The final report of the project work must not exceed 20 pages (double line spacing) and must be presented in the classroom at the end of the course.
