SERVICE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
Primary objective of the course is to provide a "suitable" point of view on the behavior of companies in the current competitive context, with specific reference to the structural dimension of the company and its dynamics / evolutionary trajectories on the markets.
Learning objectives of the course can be described as follows:
Knowledge and understanding: students must be able to understand the structural and governance elements of companies, with particular reference to service companies and with a further focus on the financial and insurance sectors.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course, students will be able to identify the peculiar elements of the process of creation and management of service companies, with particular attention to planning and control activities.
Autonomous assessments: once have learned the main theoretical contributions in terms of economics and business management, students will be able to understand the advantages and limitations of each of them, using them critically for an effective evaluation of the entrepreneurial dynamics in progress, nationally and internationally. In this sense, the reference to concrete empirical evidence, will provide the background for the start of fruitful comparisons on specific topics of discussion, related to the success / failure of modern service companies operating in the financial and insurance sectors.
Communication ability: students must be able to answer to the written, as well as to the oral examination questions in a clear and comprehensive way.
Learning capacity: students should prove a good ability to learn and deepen their knowledge about important and relevant references for the field of study. Moreover, students should be able to apply the gained knowledge to manage problems related to intra and inter-organizational collaboration.
The course is addressed to students of the three-year SIAFA Degree and, in order to better metabolize the contents, it would be advisable to know the fundamental elements of a quantitative (mathematical and statistical) and accounting nature.
EXPECTED LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The primary objective of the teaching is to provide a "suitable" point of view on the behavior of companies in the current competitive context, with specific reference to the structural dimension of the company and the dynamics / evolutionary trajectories of the same on the markets.
In particular, the student must be able to understand the structural and governance elements of companies, with particular reference to service companies and with a further focus on the financial and insurance sector.
The course is aimed at students of the three-year SIAFA degree and, in order to better metabolize the contents, it would be advisable to know the fundamental elements of a quantitative nature (mathematics and statistics) and accounting.
CONTENTS OF THE COURSE
The course introduces the learner to the principles of corporate governance, based on the main doctrinal approaches. It deals, in particular, with the problems inherent in the management of business activities (and those of services in particular) from an accounting, managerial, strategic - organizational, financial and marketing point of view.
The course will be organized in lectures, discussions of current affairs, case studies with external testimonies and group work.
VERIFICATION OF LEARNING
All students (trainees and non-trainees) will have to take an exam, divided into a written test consisting of n. 10 closed questions (each having a value of 3/30) and one open (aimed at obtaining "honors") on the topics of the program.
To pass the written test, at least 6 questions must be answered correctly.
At the request of the student, it is possible to take an oral interview, aimed at confirming and / or modifying the result of the written test.
The vote, out of thirty, will be the result of the two tests.
The course introduces students to the principles of enterprise management, based on the main doctrinal approaches. It deals, in particular, with the problems concerning management activities of companies (and of services companies in particular) in terms of accounting, managerial, strategic, organizational, financial and marketing issues.
Drivers of competitive advantage are analyzed, as well as basic competitive strategies.
The course is divided into three parts, organized as follows:
I Part (24 hours)
- enterprise and the general environment;
- evolution of industrial paradigms and new business models;
- enterprise system and sub systems;
- enterprises functions;
Part II (24 hours)
- analysis of the basics of accounting and the conditions of economic and equity balance;
- assessment of the demand potential of new markets;
- possible entry options and choices regarding the definition of the most suitable structure for the competition of companies in the global arena;
Part III (24 hours)
- tools for strategic planning and corporate governance;
- Business Planning (with particular regard to the functions of the plan);

Course will be organized in lectures, discussions of current issues, case studies with external testimonies and group work.
After a first phase, in which the teacher will transfer the preparatory contents to the study of the issues of economy and business management, students will be involved in the examination of empirical cases with particular attention to the financial and insurance services companies. .

All students (attending or not) will have to take an exam, articulated into a written text consisting of n. 10 closed questions (each worth 3/30) and one open (aimed at obtaining "praise") on the program topics.
To pass the written test you must correctly answer at least 6 questions.
At the request of the student it is possible to take an oral exam, aimed at confirming and / or modifying the result of the written test.
The vote, expressed in thirtieths, will be the result of the two tests
