Course description

The course aims to provide the main tools for planning, managing and controlling production and logistics processes. In this perspective, the course deals with issues concerning the tools and methods for quality management: managerial tools; the statistical tools; principles of advanced statistical control for processes.

Knowledge of general criteria for inventory management and materials management

Prerequisites

Analysis I, Analysis II, Probability and statistics: Resolution of derivatives and integrals; Knowledge of probability distributions.

Syllabus

PART 1 - OPERATIONS AS COMPETITIVE VARIABLES (1 CFU)
1) Evolution of production systems. From the traditional factory to the digital, advanced and integrated factory: Lean Production (JIT, TQM and TCI); WCM. The new production models and smart manufacturing (4 hours – 0,5 CFU).
2) Production strategies. Definitions. The business strategy. The operating value chain. Critical factors of market success and new production parameters. The evolution of systems: from push systems (push) to traction systems (pull). The Kanban system: rules and requirements (4 hours – 0,5 CFU).
PART 2 - TOTAL QUALITY (4 CFU)
1) Evolution of the concept of quality and the reference models. The fundamental aspects of Total Continuous Improvement (TCI) (4 hours – 0,5 CFU).
2) Tools and Methods. The PDCA method. Problem solving (4 hours - 0.5 CFU).
3) Quality tools. (12 hours – 1,5 CFU).
4) Statistical process control. Process capacity indexes: Cp and Cpk (4 hours – 0,5 CFU).
5) The Quality Management System. (4 hours - 0., CFU).
6) Leadership and communication (4 hours - 0.5 CFU).
PART 3 - PRODUCTION PLANNING AND PROGRAMMING METHODS (4 CFU)
1) Introduction to the concept of logistics. The role of logistics in business organization. (4 hours – 0,5 CFU).
2) Materials management and storage systems. Classification of stocks. (4 hours – 0,5 CFU).
3) The Material Requirements Planning (MRP) (8 hours - 1 CFU).
4) ABC analysis of materials. ROL (ReOrder Level), ROC (ReOrde Cycle). EOQ (Economic Order Quantity) and EMQ (Economic Manufacture Quantity) order batch (8 hours - 1 CFU).
5) Economic Lot and safety escort. Basic model of the economic lot. Development of the basic model. Methods to determine the safety stock. Definition of the service level. Effect of the size of the order Q on the service level. Effect of lead time size on the service level (8 hours - 1 CFU).
