General objective: to know the basic elements of Hygiene and health protection, Health Education and Health Promotion
- To know the epidemiological aspects and the socio-environmental determinants related to health promotion, the communication instruments and methods;
- To acquire instruments and methods to plan adequate interventions of health promotion;
- To know the organization of territorial healthcare services for health promotion.
In line with the objective 3 of the 2030 Agenda, the course is aimed to educate students about health promotion, and especially about the promotion of movement, by studying in depth the health determinants, in order to allow them to play an active role in this setting.
Knowledge and understanding ability: The student should demonstrate to know and understand health problems linked to the different ages and conditions.
Ability to apply knowledge and comprehension: The student should be able to use his knowledge to promote health through movement in different settings.
Judgment autonomy: The student should be able to evaluate autonomously the different situations presented by the teacher during the examination and to apply what he learned in the fields of health promotion and prevention.
Communication ability: The student should be able to explain the issues learned in an easy but scientifically correct way, even in the form of a composition.
Learning ability: The student should be able to keep up to date continuously, becoming able to improve and enhance his knowledge about epidemiology, health promotion and prevention through an independent educational path, by referring to texts and publications (also in English language).
The student should have an adequate knowledge of cellular biology, human anatomy and physiology, and a basic knowledge of general, human and environmental hygiene.
Definition of health. Health determinants: risk factors and protective factors. Modifiable risk factors: changes in behaviors and relationships. The role of lifestyle and choices. Recipients, times and aims of the three levels of prevention: health, wellbeing and quality of life for all.
Health promotion. Evolution of health promotion: from Health Education to Health Promotion. Aims and strategies of health promotion: health in all policies; make healthy choices easier; decrease health inequalities.
The role of short counseling in opportunistic settings dedicated to health promotion.
The role of movement and sport in prevention and health promotion. Physical activity and benefits for health: evidence and actions. Movement and health for each age class: childhood, adulthood, elderly. Health promotion as an instrument for risk prevention and social inclusion.
Health promoting schools: the project “Aulattiva”. Active communities and urban regeneration: Urban Health and Healthy Cities.
Promoting mental health: social diseases, addictions and psychological disorders.

The learning verification is based on an oral examination aimed to evaluate the ability of the student in relating and comparing the different course issues. The aim of the examination is to verify the achievement of the course educational goals.
