Course description

THE COURSE IS AIMED FIRST OF ALL AT PRESENTING FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION; SECONDLY, AT PROVIDING STANDARD DEFINITONS OF TERMS AND SYMBOLS TO BE USED FOR ANTENNA DESRIPTION; FINALLY, AT INVESTIGATING PROPERTIES OF SOME ELEMENTARY ANTENNAS.

Prerequisites

ANALYSIS CALCULUS I AND II; PHYSICS I AND II, ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT THEORY, ELECTROMAGNETICS.

Syllabus

Maxwell Equations (frequency domain). Vector and Scalar Potentials. Free-Space Green Function. Transmitting and Receiving Antennas.
Wire Antennas. Relationship between radiated field and source spectrum. Visible region. Current distribution over a wire antenna. Short antenna. Half-wave antennas.
1D Arrays: Broadside arrays; endfire arrays. 2D Arrays. Relationship between radiated field and source spectrum. Visible region.
Broadband antennas. Logperiodic antennas.
Plane wave expansion of the field. Relationship between radiated field and aperture field spectrum. Visible region. Asymptotic expression of the far field. Aperture antennas. Reflector antennas. Parabolic reflector.
Antenna characterization in anechoic chamber.
